My name is Gabrielle Galvan. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and my Master’s degree in Counseling from West Texas A&M University. I hold a License as a Professional Counselor Associate (License #85120). I am supervised by Aimee Campbell (License #62499). During my school internship I volunteered at the Hope and Healing Place by facilitating grief groups from pre-kindergarten through High school. I also facilitated a heart prints group for bereaved parents. I also interned as well as currently employed at NorthWest Texas Healthcare System Behavioral Health. I have experience with family therapy, individual therapy, and group ages ranging from young children through geriatrics. I have experience working with those dealing with grief, anxiety, and parenting concerns. I am currently working towards Gottman certification for couples counseling. An interesting fact about me is that I participated in study abroad. I have been to Italy twice learning about their school system as well as providing play therapy to refugees in Sicily through Mediteranian Hope.

My approach to therapy

There are many counseling approaches and techniques, which may be utilized at any given time to meet a client’s specific needs.  Two approaches I tend to utilize more often include client-centered and cognitive Behavioral therapy. The client- centered approach focuses on the client being able to freely express themselves while promoting understanding of emotions, finding meaning, and self-fulfillment. The cognitive behavioral therapy approach (CBT) focuses on how a person’s thoughts, behaviors, and emotions influence each other. This model then helps identify the source of the destructive thoughts and works towards healthier restructuring
